07 Fiesta Boot lock issue

Featured Replies

I have an issue with the boot lid (or hatch back door) release, you can normally open this by using either the button on the dash or click the button on the key fob. But since the battery on the car went flat (left on the drive for two weeks and started only one with dashcam still powered, drained the battery) the button on the dash does not release the door, the button on the key fob works about 1 in 20 attempts. The drivers and passengers doors open lock and unlock alright using the key fob. I can open the boot by inserting the key in the lock, no issue.

Is this likely to be the solenoid that operates the boot lid lock? is this a common issue? can it be fixed or is it a case of a new solenoid?

It might be worth checking your battery charge - If you have hardly used the car, it might well be flat.

On my old Puma, there would be enough oomph in the car battery to start the car, but not enough to open the boot.  Odd, but cabling was very thin to boot solenoid, so considrable voltage loss.

Cheers PaulKP, When I charged the battery I left it until it was fully charged and it has been standing 4 days since I drove it last. I will charge the battery tomorrow and see how it goes.

Boot solenoids are a very common issue and can fail with age.
