Alarm keeps going off

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I currently drive a 2006 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI, I have owned the car since last August but over the last few months I’ve had a bit of trouble with the alarm.

It started going off randomly almost every time I would lock the car (a few hours after not straight away). So I don’t a bit of research and was told it could be the bonnet latch (common fault). After removing the latch, cleaning it and replacing it I thought this cured the problem, it hasn’t.

I’ve had my local mechanic take a look and he plugged in his engine diagnosis machine and got into the system of the car (hoping to find a fault with the doors or anything related to the alarm but found nothing), he also informed me that water could have got into the back of the fuse box (another common fault).
I removed the fuse box, stripped it down and found that the inside was like new (no water damage at all). So I sprayed it with electing contact cleaner hoping this will work before reconnecting back it back into the car.

Still not very optimistic doing this, I was hoping that there was somebody who may have come across this or even somebody who used to work for Ford that could advise me what this problem is. Online research is kind of a dead end.

Sorry it’s long winded but I wanted to make it as clear as possible to make it easier to get it resolved.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

After many months of having this issue I gave in and brought a new car I know that's not necessarily helpful but it was turning in to a money pit and my neighbours wanted to murder me 😂
