Fiesta EGR problems

Featured Replies

Evening everyone, worth a go being on lock down. My girlfriends Fiesta 1.4 tdci 2007 has been playing up for a while now. Main problem is really rough idle/mis fire on first start up. Found a glow plug faulty replaced all 4. Although starts better. Still rough idle/mis-fire when cold. Bought a code reader which said EGR fault. Removed EGR cleaned it out refitted worked fine for one run. Then back to rough idle/mis-fire on start up. Blanked off EGR with shim still mis-fires but drives great when warm, drove approx 40 miles without a blip, but does flag up engine fault. Fitted new EGR few days ago without blanking shim, (eBay £30) still mis-fires on start up but been driving fine to work but stuttered a lot of times on way to shop today, went Into limp but by time I got home it was ok and fault had cleared and wouldn’t read. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are the any pending codes in the reader?

I've just bought a tunnelrats elm 327 with USB and free windows download software, which I'm learning to use. It allows you to check lots of things on the car and to run diagnostics.

Also check the freeze frame on your reader to capture what the engine was doing when fault light came on.

Clean the throttle position sensor connector, spray wd40 into both parts of the connector.

Just cleaned out the throttle position sensor plug and connector and started the car. No difference. Started first time but cranked over about 8 times. Then misfired and bounced about on idle.  I’ll drive the car to work today and take code reader just in case.  Cheers

If there are no pending codes, might be worth doing a top engine decarb clean.

Spray some decarb into the maf sensor hole whilst the engine is running. Turn the engine off and let it soak the valves for 2 hours and then run the car to blow out the smoke containing the decarb cleaner. The run the car and put some diesel injector cleaner in the fuel. Then do an oil change. It should run better after that.

How much carb cleaner should I spray in there? Thanks

Best to start with something like

wynn's Diesel Clean 3 Extreme Cleaner 500ML

added to the fuel.

The cleaners that are sprayed into the intake mainfold have mixed reviews, and I cannot recommend a good one at the moment.

Finally got the car diagnosed. Injector no 2 faulty. Can someone confirm the Injector number order please? I’ve heard it’s 1-4 reading right to left as you look at the engine from the front of the car. Thanks
