Indicators

Featured Replies

Hi, came out of tesco yesterday and unlocked my car with the fob and noticed the left side indicator didn't flash, then I noticed on the dash the indicator would flash once then go off and I would get no indicator lights on my left side (passenger) I went and swapped the bulbs over to the right and they worked so not the bulbs, I then checked the fuse box replaced 14 and 15  and then 24 and same issue only right side (driver) will work and nothing on the left any ideas what wrong and if I could fix it oh same thing with hazards lights too

Left indicator and left window... :g:  Can't be a coincidence surely.  Have you noticed anything else not working?

Sounds like a possible GEM issue, might be worth checking it's not getting damp at all, and checking all the plugs are clean and tight.

Fixed it, after changing the fuses, I sat and listened when I turned the left indicator on the was a slight squeak type noise coming from the passenger door just once when I engaged indicator while engine was on and no noise when off I opened and closed the door, checked it again and it worked had to change the rear  bulb but now its working again think it's a loos wire like you say, as window and indicator same side cant be just coincidence,

How would I check that and where is the gem located, I did notice the boot liner was wet near the boot lock during all that rain a month ago but its dry now

The GEM is behind the glovebox.  But as the squeak came from the door, there's most likely a loose connection there as you say.  It might be something as easy as the door loom plug not being tight into the car loom so definitely worth checking that.  You can also unplug it and check it all looks clean and dry inside if it's not obviously loose.

I will do, so i just check there is no dampness near the GEM, and I take it I'll have to be removed the door panel to check the door loom,

Shouldn't need to remove the door panel to check the loom plug, I just mean the short bit of loom that goes between the door and the car with probably a large round plug on it.

Obviously if that's all good, then you'll have to remove the door panel to look inside.  I really wouldn't bother with the GEM yet if the arcing noise definitely came from the door itself.

Update> i rolled my passenger window down as far as it goes and the left indicator stopped again, same issue as before, works again when I roll it up a bit you think that would be a loose wire, I'm going to attempt to take the door apart tomorrow and have a look about see what I can see,

I'm 90% sure it's the window or part inside snagging somthing, as the hinge side stops slightly before the door handle side, and there is a slight thump noise when the window stops, works ok when window is up it's just when its seated to its lowest position it cuts out the indicator/hazard light on my whole left side or if I have the indicator/hazards on then i roll down the window it cuts them off

Took a vid

Got it all fixed took it round to a guy and just paid him to do it, was a wire being snagged and stopped the window and cutting the indicators off
