MK8 Fiesta Battery Removal/Alarm Help

Featured Replies

Just after some confirmation, so basically since this whole virus/lockdown has begun I have been working from home which is great however that means my car isn’t getting the run out it gets on the day to day basis as currently have no need to go out besides once a week shopping

I went out to use my car after not using it for just over a week but couldn’t get into the car using the fob , I had to get in manually using the key in the fob , but there was no power the start the vehicle, dead battery being the case, I have myself a CTEK charger however when connecting the battery up to charge, the alarm was going constant and was unable to override the alarm , I have been reading multiple different things about what I can and can’t do. I unfortunately don’t have driveway parking and my car is parked on the street outside so don’t really want to have the battery charger outside for anyone to do anything to

my question is if I take my battery out of the vehicle completely to bring inside to put on trickle charge until the battery is charged back up is there anyway my alarm can go off when the battery is disconnected or should I be fine to take it out for upto 24hrs , I know that the car will learn all the electronic systems after using the vehicle again but have read that there is a backup battery which sets the alarm off and I don’t want to have that happen and be unable to stop the alarm

Sorry for the novel , probably a stupid and pointless question but will be grateful for all advice ,

What does it say in the owner manual about battery removal?

What does it say in the owner manual about battery removal?

It says about a battery back up sounder , this is an additional alarm and sounds a siren if the vehicles battery is disconnected , triggering the alarm if someone disconnects the vehicles battery this alarm will horn for 30 seconds and hazards flash for 5 minutes , it then says the alarm will continue to sound in the same pattern if the above occurs

just want to know if anyone else has occurred this at all with their car as the last thing I want to do is have this extra alarm going off in intervals annoying neighbours/ and myself and if so anyone know how to disable/override the alarm as the key fob doesn’t override my main alarm currently due to flat battery

any help would be much appreciated just want to sort it out as soon as I can without annoying elderly/respectful neighbours

If you need to remove the battery the best thing to do is get hold of another good battery, borrow one or something, make up a lead with a cigarette socket plug one end and a pair of crock clips on the other and plug it into the cars socket, that way you keep power to the sounder and the radio from loosing the code. Connect it up before you remove the battery and don't disconnect it until you have reinstalled the battery.

There should be a valet switch/key which is used for turning it off for servicing etc.
