St Project

Featured Replies

Hey guys im new to these forums as id rather get some friendly advice before i start on my fiesta

Im thinking about getting a 02 zetec 1.4 and making it into an ST replica. Nothing chavy just the sutle mods like bumpers, alloys... Just wondering if there are certain things i should look out for and any problems people have had doing this already?

I want to get the bubbled headlights (from the 05 model onwards i think) but dont know if they will fit or not?

Any info would be wiked, if everything is okay then i will crack on with the project with pictures ! :D

Thanks!

Welcome :)

From reading things from other forums, bumpers should not be a problem. If it's anything like my MK4, any bumper from any MK4 would fit.

I have seen MK6's with MK6.5 headlights so that also shouldn't be a problem!

Alloys, again with most cars should not be a problem, just counter in the speedo difference with a different sized tyre, shouldn't be too different though.

One thing i would say is to check with your insurance company about completing these mods.

The lights shouldn't be a problem, but i know some insurance companies are funny about bumpers. Some will not be bothered and will declare them on your policy for free, but some see it as a bad thing. Describe it as changing the bumpers from a higher spec model to make yourself sound like you won't aim for the first tree you see!! (in the eyes of the insurers of course!!) This also ensures that if you were to ever crash your car and needed parts replacing, they would likely replace like-for-like and not have any problems with possible policy voids.

Good luck with it all! :)

Thanks for the info, im looking at the MK6 model going to roughly spend abotut 2k on it with 1k left for the modifications.. Will give my insurance company a ring to see what they say, im sure things will be fine as i dont intend to touch the engine or stick a big exhaust on the back lol. Can understand tho that in their eyes its now more 'stealable'.. im 20 now so ive had a few years experience..

Ive done alot of research and the headlights is the only thing i cant seem to dig any dirt up on.. Hope they'll fit :D

I believe that the head lights are a straight swap (don't quote me!!!) i think it's the rear lights that are a bit more difficult.

MK6 for 2k? You'll be lucky to find one!!

High mileage also. Perhaps you'd be better off buying a MK5 Zetec-S??

All the hard work done for you and they're supposed to be very nice cars for the price :)

I've managed to find a couple already just wanted to get the go ahead from the miss's, trust me her opinion counts lmao.. Ahh straight swap sounds lovely too me, should be too much work there then.

Im totally in love with the ST fiesta so untill i have a job that affords one this is the best im gna get :D

Are you guys sure about the MK6 /6.5 headlight swap?

When I was looking into getting a MK6, I stumbled across bits & pieces and I'm sure I read some place they were tricky to get them to fit. Not gospel, but something to look into.

What the fitting is tight? or its hard to get to them because of engine components being in the way?

Whilst I was browsing for a new car for my mate I saw a black 03 plate mk6 on autotrader which had the mk 6.5 headlights and front bumper/grille so it's definately possible.

Also, If you're getting an early mk6 make sure you don't go for the 1.3 petrol engine... it's rubbish! The 1.25 is far better. :)

Ahhh wiked, thanks for that mate. I have found this one, seems really good for the price and is the color i wanted

Still think its too good for that price

Also just found this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1604686.htm

Its almost there but the seller isnt sure if it was CAT D or not

No worries! :)

The one on pistonheads I wouldn't go near with a barge pole! You're much better getting a tidy standard car that hasn't been messed around with and the 'might have been CAT D' bit is just weird!

The first one from autotrader I was looking at as a possible option for my mate, MOT'd, taxed and low mileage.

If you go on http://www.cartextcheck.co.uk/ you can text in the reg of the car you're looking at and for £3 they tell you whether there's any outstanding finance on it or if its been written off/total loss etc. I also think that it tells you if the mileage is going to be reliable aswell.

Yehh i was thinking about doing that nearer the time of buying it. Most of these cars are a good few hundred miles drive for me ;)

Thanks for your help bud, will let you know how things go over the week :D ;)

Id get a good car to start with, if the bumpers are a bit bashed then you will be replacing them anyway!

But like mechanically sound, FSH MOT etc and youll be fine :)
