Engine replacement options

Featured Replies

Hello all.  I have just bought my son a 2009 Fiesta with a blown engine. It is a 1.6 TDCI. Engine code HHJC.  90 bhp.

I understand these engines are used by several manufacturers.  If it is fitted in something French does anyone know what engine codes I need to look out for to get a replacement unit?

Thank you for any suggestions

In case you are not awAre there are 16 valve twin cam and 8 valve single cam versions of this engine. I think they changed about the year of your car. 16 valve is the older one. I don’t know if peugeot Citroen changed at same time as ford did. I don’t know the codes.

Thank you for your reply. It is the early 16 valve engine. I will do a bit more digging.

The basic engine blocks are all the same, it's just the ancillaries that change between models, so in theory you should be able to fit any 16v unit if it's a bare block.  They also come in Peugeot, Citroen, Volvo, Mini and Suzuki...no shortage of them!

The later engines had a better designed turbo oil pipe so if you're going for a more 'furnished' engine, try and find the latest you can.  I'm sure you're also aware of the oil carbon issues with these?  I'm not sure I'd trust a used one without giving it a good internal inspection.

Thank you for your excellent reply. It looks like carbon issue was the cause of the original engine fail. Injector seal went and was not repaired. When I get a replacement I will reseal the injectors and pop the sump off to check the pick up pipe. Do you know what year the improved oil feed pipe was fitted from?

I'm not sure of the exact date but it seems to have been around 2008.
