1.4tdci chugging with limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this problem as I am not very good with diesels.

My wife's 2007 70,000 mile, 1.4 tdci has started to play up. Start up from cold is very rough possibly firing on 3 when warmed up it runs a bit better but not like it should

After a short distance it whent into limp mode with warning light and she managed to get it home. Got it to the local small garage and they ran a diagnostics check, that didn't seem to sure but the mechanis said the injector flow rates showed that number 2 injector was suspected. I told him to change it and replace the fuel filter at the same time but as the car is only worth perhaps £600 I didn't want him to spend loads on it and he agreed. After a couple of days he said that he believed it was fixed, my wife went to pick the car up, it started okay,,  she got a couple of miles, nearly home and it did it again! I now don't trust that the garage has the expertise to fix the car.

I got myself a cheap code reader, went out yesterday, plugged it in, no codes, started it running rough on three, no warning light, no codes. When it had warmed up it ran better, took it up the road and it seemed okay for half a mile then warning light and limp mode, coaxed it home, warning light still on but no codes!

What to do? I read on the forum that a Bosch service centre would help but my nearest is 15 miles away and I am worried I will end up replacing all the injectors costing more than the car is worth.

Do you guys think this is a 'spares or repair' e-bay job? A bit annoying with a brand new battery, 4 good tyres, a new fuel filter and injector.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated as my wife needs a car for work.

What code reader have you got. I think if light on and in limp mode it must have a fault code. They don’t need proper ford stuff to read codes, something like a twenty quid one from tunnel rat electronics are good

Thanks for the reply, it's a V310 with a lead. Perhaps I just didn't use it it correctly then.

I have very similar problem with my fiesta. Have changed two injectors so far but problem continue to come back. Now looking into if the fuel injector pump is taking in air and therefore making the injection uneven.
