Mk6 battery retaining bar

Featured Replies

Hi, i cannot get the battery retaining bar off as outer retaining nut won,t come off, just going round, and i,m not sure how to remove the small Fuse Box ? on the other end of the retaining bar, i know the box is only clipped in but knowing me, i,m 72 yo, i will break the clips/box. I have tried to unclip the box. The bar won.t come up far enough unless the box is removed. Thank,s in advance, Mike

Hi Mike, funnily enough took this off 2 days ago when I removed the battery and holder to try to get space to work on the ABS pump.  It is very simple (but as usual harder to explain!)

If I've done the file attachment thing right, one picture shows a line drawing of  the battery retaining bar and the other is a picture of the middle section of the plastic box.  The two plastic vertical tabs on the front of the second picture have a lump on the backside which locates in the rectangular holes on the mounting bar.  Simply pull the tabs slightly forward (in relation to the picture) and lift the whole plastic unit off.  Hope that makes sense?

If I remember correctly - the two nuts that hold the battery bar in place are at the two ends of a strap that runs down the sides of the battery box, and across the bottom, held in place by one of the three bolts that hold the battery box itself to it's mounting plate.  If the nut is just spinning, then the thread on the strap is probably stripped.
