Door mirrors

Featured Replies

Due to the lockdown my 2014 Ford Fiesta’s battery has discharged and gone flat, it has now been recharged and all is fine, all apart from both wing mirrors that no longer open when the car is unlocked, I have tried to open them manually with no success, the passengers mirror can be adjusted but won’t open and drivers mirror won’t adjust at all, could it be a fuse or a relay and if not does anyone have any ideas, all was fine until the battery went flat.

Hi Dave we've had the same issue with our 61 plate Fiesta.  We had to use jump leads to get it started and found afterwards  that neither mirror would adjust or fold and the drivers windows would not operate , but the passenger window did work. I checked the handbook and fuse F25 (7.5 Amp) was identified as the culprit. So I swapped that and it worked until I tried to fold the mirrors in when it blew the fuse again. I've had to order online some more fuses as no shops open nearby to get replacement.

But several questions 1. Is it a simple fix? 2. If I just disable auto fold when locking vehicle will that work? 3 Will it be safe. 4 If it's a design fault then as the drivers window won't work is it not a safety recall issue?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Perhaps they're just very stiff after not being used for so long and so the motor struggles to operate the mechanism and so it stalls. Try spraying some silicon lube in the gaps where you can to help ease it.

As above pop the covers off and lube all moving parts with Silicone spray as its Water Proof.

Hi

Many thanks for your help and suggestions.  Had to wait for new fuses and silicone spray to arrive, which got lost in the post.

Tried it today with some success, the passenger mirror now works fine, but the drivers mirror worked twice and now doesn't.

The fuse is no longer blowing so your suggestions have certainly solved 80% of the problem.

I did try to get the covers off but they seem pretty well stuck on so didn't want to damage them.

So I'm left with a drivers mirror that won't fold in but can live with that.

Cheers

Might help they can feel stiff and there going to break but give it another go it might just be very sttiff on the motor

I've had exactly the same today. 2015 Fiesta, flat battery, recharged it and then the door mirrors were stuck folded.

So I called the RAC and the excellent technician fixed it for me. The solution was simply to re-boot the car by disconnecting the battery, waiting a couple of minutes, then reconnecting again.
