1.0 EcoBoost problems

Featured Replies

Evening all I have a 2013 focus 1.0 EcoBoost and I'm looking for advice!

The car will start and tick over but when you try to rev it over 2000rpm it splutters and wont rev any higher. The fumes also smell of petrol.

I've plugged it in with a cheap code reader and the codes I'm getting are p0459 and p0251

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Sounds like possible fuel pump or fuel filter issue.
I’d start off with changing the fuel filter

I don't think that there is a separate fuel filter on the 1.0 EcoBoost. Only a filter inside the tank which is part of the fuel pump. The fuel pumps on these are not cheap.

On the 1.0 ECOboost the P0251 DTC code is usually caused by a defective high pressure fuel pump.

The high pressure fuel pump of the 1.0 ECOboost is mechanically driven by an additional cam lobe on the camshaft. The high pressure fuel pump has an integrated PWM controlled fuel metering valve to regulate the volume flow rate of the pump.

Same codes here.

Ensure that if you have these codes that you have the evap purge valve and high pressure fuel pump solenoid connectors on the correct component, they are located next to each other and the connectors will fit each other (although they look slightly different in appearance).

You are an absolute legend! The connectors were the wrong way round! Top man.

Bit of a random thread this one 🤣
