Mazda 3 1.6 diesel(AKA Ford Focus) Wheel hop Issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback with the 1.6TDCI so basically a focus with a Mazda badge. Basically when I start driving it from cold start it produces really bad wheel hop. I could be on a dry flat grippy road and it does it, the worst part is it takes no effort. Even when I slowly let up the clutch with no accelerator pedal the wheels hop like crazy.

Once the car is fully warmed up it stops doing it though, I read the engine mounts can cause it but the fact that it goes away means it can’t be the mounts. I’ve just replaced all 4 shocks as they were worn with standard KYBs and it seems to amplify the issue.

could it be a drivetrain issue or something to do with the traction control?

Thanks.

The 1.4TDCi and the 1.6TDCi are Citröen Peugeot engines put in fords aswell as Mazda as featured 😅
