Ford Fiesta 2011 1.2 petrol, engine sound tappety? Help with potential buy

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a Ford Fiesta titanium, 1.2 Petrol, 2011, from a dealership in Italy, where I'm living at the moment.

I went to drive it and all seems okay, but I wondered if this engine sound is usual? Sounds a bit tappety to me but when I went to test drive another fiesta the sound was even worse! Is this just what the engines sound like for this model, year and engine size?

I've attached a link to a video, the fan is on as it was just after driving so sorry if it's difficult to hear.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Peter

Just sounds like the injectors, mine sounds pretty much the same.

Yeah, they all sound like that, the 1.25 is not a refined engine.

Thanks guys, so you wouldn't let it put you off buying it?

Best,

Peter

That noise wouldn't put me off, no.

The lack of power and surprisingly poor fuel economy would instead.  There must be more interesting cars for sale in Italy?

On paper, it's better than other things at the same price! Budget is around 5k, what would you recommend?

I don't know the Italian market unfortunately so not sure what else would be around the same price.  I would assume Italian cars are cheaper over there?  Fiat Tipo could be in budget if so?

In the UK I'd suggest a Suzuki Swift over a basic Fiesta, the 1.2 petrol in those is far superior to the old Zetec lump in the Fiesta's, and the SZ4 trim comes with loads of spec too.  They also don't have the horrible dash that intrudes into the cabin and makes the Fiesta feel claustrophobic in my opinion.

Yeha think they are quite hard to find here!

Forgot to mention, this one is a titanium so has a bit of the trim (though the alloys have been stripped and sold)
