New Plates, Same Reg

Featured Replies

Today I bought myself some shiny new number plates, I am after some thoughts on them, is the front a little too high, and is the rear slightly lower on the left than the right? They are on with extremely sticky pads but i am sure a hair-dryer will do the trick if change is needed

Front looks ok to me and back looks a little squint.

Was over your side of the water today!

Thanks, I may attack the plate tomorrow to straighten it up, its really hard to get a good line though with nothing to match up to.

Getting upto much across here then?, not that there is much to do

If you are interested, click the link in the bottom of my sig to sign up for the next meet. Trying to get a lot more members this time as the last one went really well.

Nothing interesting - just work! All the way to Anstruther - what a trek, bloomin' sat nav took me to Crail.

Not too far away from where you originally wanted to go then

I hope you got yourself a fish supper B)

All looks fine to me. Did you have the scot flag on your previous ones? :P

I just had the original ford ones plastered with all the rubbish and borders. Think these ones look a lot cleaner. However, my super sticky pads have started to come away in the rain :(

One of the sticky pads failed already, so i am thinking on drilling them on to save worrying about if they are falling off or not

Anyone done this before with any tips before I start?

I was going to use the old plates as a template and drill through from the back into some polystyrene or something similar. Would this stop the cracking you see on some plates around the screws? It also happens that the holes land on a letter/number of the plate so I am just going to paint my screw heads black to they are not so noticeable.

Gazjs you could always try a different set of stick pads. My Dad bought some replacement plates and used the sticky pads that came with them, these were from Motosave. He went through 2 sets in 3 weeks as they just fell off. He then tried some from Halfords, they were more expensive but you could see the difference in quality as they were a lot thicker for starters. These have been on the car now for about 3 months and don't look like moving.

I drilled a new set on my Ford KA when i spun into a hedge and took the front off. I just removed the old ones and used them as a template to directly drill through & put the same screws in to hold it in place. The plates you see crack is only due to the hole being too tight for the screw thats been put through.

So, if you have a slight clearance fit on the holes you drill & don't over tighten they fit as you'd expect - just remember to set the old number plate square on the one your drilling!
