Fiesta 62 Plate Alternator Problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd ask on here as I'm sure it is not normal!!

I have a 2012 fiesta 1.4 petrol automatic.

Just over 36000 miles on.

I bought it in September 2018.

When I went to test drive it had a noise when it started up ( sounded like a belt )as I test drove it went away, all was good and I had it.

The noise got louder and after a few months battery light would come on and off.

Went into the garage April 2019.

Needed a new alternator, the one that was took off was not the original alternator. So number 3 at least was put on with a new belt also.

Fast forward a few tyres and springs later to the start of june this year, the battery light comes on again!!

It had sat for about 2 weeks when I was in hospital but had been started and charged.

Was out in it yesterday and it cut everything off whilst driving so I had to get recovered.

Got it to the garage and the alternator had gone again!!

Surely this is not normal on an 8 year old car?

Has anyone had similar issues.

Thanks Lauren.

I find one of these voltmeters useful.Plug it into your cig/aux socket and it gives a battery state of charge reading. When driving and your alternator is functioning correctly the voltage should be about 14.6 volts. When your car is parked up and sat for a couple of hours a fully charged battery should read about 12.7👍
