Car not driving straight / steering wheel not straight

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had my cars track rods changed and then they made me a wheel alignment. Everything was fine until I changed my winter tires into summer tires. I had to hammer my winter tires with another tire a bit (to get them off since they were a bit rusted). Eventually I got the winter tires changed into summer ones. Everything seems fine except the steering wheel isnt in the middle position/correct position when car is going straight.

When I have the steering wheel in middle position the car turns slightly to left. Now I'm left wondering the reason:

a) did I mess up my cars alignment when I changed the tires and had to hammer them to get them off

b) are the tires worn so unevenly (one is 5 mm one 4,5 mm thread depth left) and did I install them in a way that more worn out tires are on left side of the car and less worn out tires on the right side

I've checked the tyre pressures and they're allright. Also the tyres are worn out almost the same, but there are some differences between thread depth on left and right side. (max 1 mm)

Anyone else experienced something similar with their Fiesta ? My Fiesta is mk7.5 2014 model year. Is it easy to mess up your wheel alignment? Before this my Fiestas have never had any trouble with the alignment.

I don't have a solution but this time hopefully you lubed the wheel interfaces. My front wheels were bonded to the hub as well 👍

Get someone to check your steering rack. One forum member hit the curb and after that the brakes began to wear unevenly. After changing the brakes, calipers and other bits the problem was fixed with a new steering rack.

If you had to hammer the wheels to get them off you may have upset the tracking.

As Bobr says, get the tracking checked, it's as simple as that.

The quickest and easiest way to check if it's the tyres causing the trouble is to swap them over and if it makes no difference then that rules them out.
