Older car, low mileage - worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've just seen a 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.2 petrol Zetec at a Ford garage, it has only 13,500 miles on the clock and was driven by a elderly lady for the shopping run. It was kept in the garage and the body work is still like new ,has a full service history and has had the Cam and auxillary belts changed. It's on sale for £5,700, is it worth getting or is the age of the car a factor in not buying it?

Thanks all

Incredible find at that mileage. I think the price is a bit big but if you’re keen then why not.

Despite the low mileage, the age will still bring issues, particularly with rubber seals and washers, hoses on the cooling system and general perishing of some materials. That’s probably why the belts were changed way before the mileage would have required it.

Driven 13.5k by an elderly lady...  I'd definitely factor in the price of a clutch!

Cambelt interval is 8 years on these, so that would've needed doing by now anyway, despite the low mileage.

I wouldn't avoid the car due to age, but there's no way I'd pay that much for it in that spec with that engine.

I wouldn't buy the car too low mileage for it's age, the engine hasn't nearly been run-in properly and what else has been said here above.

i would only buy a second hand car with at least 10000 km / 62000 mile average per year

£5,700 is a little steep. I bought my 2 year old facelift zetec for not much more than that with similar milage. If it was the 1.6 zetec-s then it's probably not a bad price, but considering it's just a normal 1.2, it's a little too expensive imo.

But yes as others have said super low milage isn't a good thing. 5th gear is probably brand new 😂 and the exhaust will be rusty and full of water/condensation from not getting up to temperature and burning it off.

There was apost on here not long ago, someone selling a very low mileage 3.0 v6 Mondeo. Get that instead.

It's way overpriced.   Needs about £2k knocking off.

How much mileage will you do, if for example if you are going to do 2500 miles per annum the you may as well buy a higher mileage car. If looked after properly then they should last over 100k so will this low mileage be all that advantageous to you. And the price is more than I would expect to pay for a fiesta of that age. But if really is as good condition as one less than half it’s age maybe it’s not that bad
