Bonnet won't shut property (Fiesta MK6.5)

Featured Replies

Hi, super new here, just got myself a 2006 Ford fiesta MK 6.5 1.6TDCI and I was told by the seller to close the bonnet I needed to push down on it. From previous experience with other cars (not a mk6.5 fiesta) I usually drop the bonnet. I tried it with my firsta but the black and yellow pull tab just stays put. I've tied lots of wd40.

Is this normal, if not any ideas on how I could fix it?

sounds like it's either not adjusted or the front is slighlty out of line, perhaps it's had a bump.

When shut, does the bonnet line up perfectly?  if it's a little high then the rubber need lowering.  If it's perfect you might have to adjust the catch to slacken it.  Assuming there is adjustment in it>

I would be wondering why it's been set up like this though, it wouldn't be that bad when new so it's been apart for some reason.

if anything the bonnet line is slightly lower

As said above, in my experience the main reason they stop engaging properly is when the front end has been damaged in the past.

Haven't the Mk6s all had a front end bump by now?

As above, the only option you've got is to adjust the catch (move it upwards if the bonnet is sitting low) or adjust the rubbers.

If it shuts by pushing on it though, I'd just leave it like that.  You might make it worse by adjusting it.

Hello

Has the car been MOT'd recently. i ask this as a relative of mine had hers done at kwik fit and failed MOT because of it. I had dropped the vehicle off, bonnet fully closed, 40 minutes later failed MOT due to bonnet not closing. Turned out the mechanic had turned the rubbers half a turn and the bonnet wouldn't shut. i even had a secondhand bonnet catch put on it.

the problem was i couldn't prove that they had done it. So just check this.

Hope it helps

That's the mechanic being fussy and making faults up so they can charge you stupid amounts to adjust a few screws. Don't go to Kwikfit for MOT's (or any work for that matter) although I guess you've learnt that lesson now.

Yes learnt my lesson from that. In fact had 2 car booked in for after then, cancelled both and told other people not go back.
