Fiesta Titanium Econetic TDCi diesel broke down after air con turned on

Featured Replies

Hi, I wonder if anyone could advise....My 2015 Ford Fiesta Titanium Econetic TDCi diesel recently broke down. ..I had not been driving it very far since the lockdown (13 weeks) apart from once a week, just around the corner to get shopping. But just over a week ago,  drove about 20 mins away from home to do some shopping. When I was driving home, I came to traffic lights on red - and engine stops (due to stop/start tech). It  had rained so i turned on the air con (to prevent windows from steaming after rain). So engine turned on due to air con being turned on, but it was a bit jittery, like the power was going.  Then when lights turned green and i started to drive, I didn't get far - literally it broke down in the box junction in the middle of a dual carriageway. I tried turning ignition again but it was dead.  So had to call out the breakdown service.  He was able to start it (after i'd been waiting maybe 20-30 mins) and got it on this truck, but he suggested not driving it with the air con and taking to a garage. From the last service a year ago they said the air conditioner may need a service but I didn't get it done at that time. Any ideas what could be the fault?  Could it be connected to the air conditioning, after I hadn't been using it for over 13 weeks or would this be a coincidence? Thanks.

It sounds like the air con was just too much load for the battery/alternator at the same time as an engine start.

I would say it's more likely to just be the battery than an AC fault.  Does it start & run now?

Thanks for this.  It did start the other day when I drove it from the carport and washed the car. I haven't attempted to drive it far but arranging to get it serviced now and i'll point out the issue I had. Hopefully then there isn't a big problem/ fault with the air con in that case, but just lack of use.  Thanks for the reply.
