Mk6 engine swap?

Featured Replies

I have both a 1.6 fiesta ghia (5door) and an 1.25 fiesta style (5door)

The 1.6 was written off (rear ended) and my 1.2 ( the daily runabout) is practically on the verge engine death.

As they are both 5door ( assuming looms and whatnot are the same) can i just drop the engine from the 1.6 into the other with out having to change everything?

Would it be easy to do and what exactly would be needed?

I'm not sure the number of doors matters unless you're planning on mounting it in the cabin.   I assume it's a 1.6 petrol, not a 1.6 TDCi, much more difficult if it's a diesel.

I wouldn't say it'll be physically easy but as you'll have the donor car for all parts needed that makes it a lot less complicated.  Keep the engine and gearbox together, and use the driveshafts from the 1.6 as well.  Engine mounts are all the same as far as I'm aware so should simply drop in.  You'll need to swap over the engine ECU and the clocks and key fobs as they are all coded together for the immobiliser.  I think the engine loom is the same but you'd have to double check that.
