Ford Fiesta 2016 titanium x gearbox/clutch

Featured Replies

Hi all,

so I bought a 2016 fiesta titanium x last year, I’ve owned it just a few days over a year now and it’s got around 23,000 miles. I’ve had issues with the car with the one of the windows not going up properly (this is still ongoing).

But this morning I drove to work and the gearbox or clutch has gone on it. I’ve had issues with getting the car in and out of gears but not thought too much of it as it was never too bad but for the past week it’s been hard to get into gear. Today it has gone and I can only get it into 3/4 gear. When I start the car with the clutch down then release the clutch in neutral, it stalls as if it was Stuck in a gear.

For the time period in which I’ve had this car and how many miles it has done, surely the clutch or gearbox shouldn’t have gone?

Fords will only replace the clutch or gearbox at £745.78 and £2211.85. I don’t have this type of money at the moment and then I did have it booked in for it’s service tomorrow which is £215.

does anyone know what I can do and surely they should be able to do something for the time I’ve had the car and the amount of miles it’s done.

thank you.

The clutch sounds ok if you can start it in gear and it only stalls when lifted.

The gear linkage might be broken/out of adjustment if the stick will only move forward and back, not side to side?  I'm not sure how much engine knowledge you have but you could try removing the linkage and 'manually' pushing the selectors into place on the gearbox to see if it's just the linkage at fault.

The car is out of manufacturer warranty now so Ford won't be interested in paying for repairs.  I take it the car didn't come with any extra/extended warranty when you bought it?

That sounds more like the gear linkage as Tom says

To elaborate. There are two cables

like heavy duty bicycle brake cables that go from the bottom of gear lever to the gear box . One cable for backwards forwards gear lever movement And one for sideways.  If yours is same as the ones I have seen the cables are on levers on front of gearbox under a black plastic cover that has a sort of cover that hinges open. I think you need to open that and see what happens when someone moves the gear lever as a starter to finding what’s wrong.  On my old focus one of cables detached at the gear lever end inside car under the gaiter.

Call trading standards for advice as the consumer rights act states a large purchase such as a car should last a lot longer than a year before you have to spend 2k to fix it.

If you are into the radio listen to LBC on a sat / sunday as Clive Bull does a consumer hour with a very good lawyer whom you can ask questions to and I hear car related questions like what you have asked all the time and the outcome is usally on the side of the consumer. You will end up writting letters to the garage etc but you have got to stick it to them.

Thank you all, the car starts with the clutch down but when I take it out of gear an Loft the clutch, the car stalls as if it is still in gear. I can move the gear stick into all gears but only 3/4 will move the car.

i was debating seeking legal advise if they don’t find a resolution for this but I’m waiting on a call from the manager who sold me the car.
