south_bound
Hi all, I am now the proud owner of a recent Mk 4 Focus estate, 2 ltr diesel, Sept 2019 MY with 8,000 miles. I had a good long drive home from the dealer in Berlin yesterday (just shy of 1,000 miles), so plenty of time to assess and was very happy happy with how it performed. I will probably start having a regular questions as things come to mind. I'll start with a few that hopefully some of you will have had experience and be able to enlighten me: - I lifted the boot floor and found some B&O sound system stuff there as per the photos, are these just the amplifier and some sort of connection box? I haven't tried, but I guess the big black box comes off when you unscrew the spare wheel? - a couple of times when I stopped on my trip, the fans seemed to be at full speed after stopping the engine. Not always after the longest or hardest run and it wasn't noticeable when driving, and they stopped as soon as I restarted the engine. It didn't seem normal at the time, but is there reason why that would happen. Each time I checked before I stopped the engine it wasn't happening. - The stop-start hasn't worked at all. I would have thought that driving all day yesterday would have maxed the battery charge so maybe there is something else up with it? It doesn't really bother me and I would have probably switched it off most of the time anyway, especially as I don't really do town driving. - I have never had a car with adblue before. From what I have read I have to top up every now and then, for those who have these diesels do you just get it when the light comes on or at a regular schedule? Also, is it best to get it from a petrol station or pre-buy it in containers? I assume you don't need a specific type for Fords? - I don't have a reverse camera, the only thing I would have added if specifying from new. I read elsewhere that this can't be retrofitted on the Mk 4, any advice on this or if anyone has done it? Otherwise I might add a generic one that connects to my phone or something that does not integrate with the car systems. - I have all-LED lights. In my country legally I have to carry a spare set of bulbs in the car, even though most cars nowadays it s not really practical to change bulbs at the side of the road without a full set of tools. What is the score for LEDs, are they just like normal bulbs, except for the LED part? Aren't LEDs supposed to last pretty much for ever so shouldn't expect to change many? I think that's a good start with some questions. It doesn't help that the handbook is in German which I don't understand so I might have to try to get one in English. Also,it doesn't look like Haynes have released one of their books for the Mk 4 yet, so will have to try to find an equivalent if I start wanting to take things apart at any time.. alexp999
Silver box is the dsp. Black circle is the sub. Engine fan running means it’s trying to do a dpf regen. Stop start won’t work while it’s trying to regen. Also can be battery related lots of topics and info about it on this forum. You can’t change the leds. They are part of the unit they are fitted to. You can get access to an online version of your handbook from the Ford UK site, although the VIN specific one might not be in English, or you can access it through the Ford Pass App. That is strange about the fan running. It will do that if a Regeneration is happening or just after one has happened as Alex said, but it is strange that it happened a couple of times just as you stopped on the same journey. If it does keep happening more than it should then the best way to monitor it is with the FORScan phone App and a suitable wireless adaptor. TomsFocus
It's worth noting that DPF regens will be very frequent on these, trying to get a 2.0 diesel to pass Euro 6 emissions isn't easy! Over 1000 miles I'd expect more than just 2 regens.
south_bound
Thanks all. I had to look up what DSP is, and good to know. For the regen, I had assumed that Adblue meant no regens needed but looks like its not the case. Strange that it happened twice just at the end of a run given how long I was driving, maybe just bad timing. If that is all it was I'm happy enough. I found the online version of the manual. Not as easy to read as a proper book but does at least give some useful info. I haven't had time to go through it properly or play with the settings in the car so will have a go this weekend. Any suggestions on what to look out for and what is worth changing from standard settings. I have switched off the start/stop which wasn't working anyway and the lane departure thingy which gives a really weird steering feedback when you cross the white lines. Yesterday the pre-collision warning flashed up on the screen and then went off, probably just driving too close to something, but why didn't the front sensors just show up? Lots to get used to with these modern cars!
south_bound
Another couple of questions... This car doesn't have a reverse camera and I read on another thread that it may not be possible to add one through the Sync system. If that is the case, has anyone added an independent system, as in an aftermarket camera which connects straight to its own screen, and picks up power through the reverse light? I could put a small screen on the back of the sun visor or connect into my phone so it does not clutter up the front console. On my last car I disabled the seat belt warning chimes, is there a similar procedure on the Mk 4 for that? I do normally wear the seat belt of course, but there are times I am in and out of the car on private land and the noise does my head in for the sake of a a couple of minutes slow drive with no other traffic around. AdBlue is purely to reduce NOx, it has no effect against particulates. EGR alone can't get NOx levels low enough these days which is why most manufacturers are now having to use AdBlue as well. Tbh I reckon there were probably another couple of DPF regens while you were on the road that you wouldn't have noticed, just bad timing that you stopped on a couple of them. It's really not a problem as it'll just start again on the next drive.

Default setting is far too sensitive. Clever tech , pretty sure it’s a lidar camera top of windscreen in front of the mirror...next to where the space where sunglasses should go!
