Focus Mk4 ST-Line - Wireless Phone Charger

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the part number or where I can source the wireless phone charger module that fits in the cubby hole underneath the climate control?

My car was an ex-demo and of course they left this out...

Ta muchly!

You can buy it from Ford as a kit

Thanks Gary, any idea on a part code?

All I’ve seen re wireless charging is bad reviews. Might be due to phone size. But going round corners ..phone moves..you get a message on sync telling you it’s no longer charging. As far as I know you then have a sync button to clear it..all while driving. If I were you I’d buy a decent usb cable.

I’m looking forward to wireless Apple CarPlay but Ford need to redesign the charging pad. Really shouldn’t have released it with the issue it has. It’s not rocket surgery 😆

See what you mean - noticed it go off charge a couple of times with my iPhone. For wireless car play I got one of these: https://carplay2air.com

Plugged in and hidden in the arm rest usb so phone stays in pocket or on the wireless pad - it’s a good little device, far from 100% perfect but it seems to depend on the car you have - in my experience works well with sync 3.4.

The Factory option is rubbish as already suggested. I use a small charger pad about size of playing card and only 5mm thick that sits in same gap in tray with a 12in cable plugged into USB port. Works well and you can hardly see it. Only cost about £20 from Amazon.

£114 ?

what’s not perfect about it?

ive got a 69 plate Focus , so stuck on sync 3.3 just now..😠

should still be compatible.

On mine there’s a very slight lag when playing audio - after hitting next track on the steering wheel will take 2/3 seconds, it’s noticeable when comparing to cabled but you do quickly get used it it. Connection from starting the car takes 10/15 seconds or so too so it’s slower than plugging in but it’s connected by the time I’ve left my road.

Since I got mine there’s a new USB C version out not sure if this improves the slight audio lag. Different brand but the units the same / same software etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089W5Q6S1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_X6weFb618C4D5

Thanks, good to know re the lag. I don’t think I could put up with that!
currently I use Bluetooth Apple Music..no lag. Only time I bother to plug in is for Apple Maps but once Apple make Carplay wireless Id probably use that all the time..

Yeah it’s definitely something what takes getting used to! I think Fords Sync 4 supports wireless CarPlay but no signs of that coming in anything other than I think the new mustang any time soon, expect in a few years time wireless CarPlay will be much more mainstream.

If Apple can make it all work thru Bluetooth it should be compatible with most cars.
I thought it had been or is soon to be released in USA .
ive seen sync4 in the mustang. Screens huge!

Looks like the wireless CarPlay has been around a while...probably got some kind of exclusive deal with certain manufacturers.
not Ford

Which Cars Offer Wireless Apple CarPlay?

Counting hybrid variants as separate cars, 27 models from three brands offer wireless Apple CarPlay for the 2019 model year, either as standard or optional equipment. The BMW Group is out ahead on the feature, offering it on all models with factory navigation across the BMW and Mini brands.

Am pretty sure it’s been open to all for a while now but not many have chosen to install wireless so far.

Theres rumours apple may remove the port on the iPhone in a couple years so we may well see an official apple car play wireless adapter at some point which would no doubt solve the issues with the third party one!

As far as I know BMW and maybe mini too are not compatible with android at all. No android auto . Would make sense if they’re trying to keep it exclusively Apple.

It doesn't all go through bluetooth.

Bluetooth just creates the pairing and then it uses WiFi for the audio and video.

There will be certain hardware requirements to get wireless carplay working, that are probably not in older units.
