Focus vs Puma?

Featured Replies

Hello.

My 2005 focus is turning 300k km and I'm looking for options in case it develops a nasty failure.

There's two things I like the most from my current car: The big boot and the independent rear suspension. Both of them are lost in the latest models (boot is smaller and they come with rigid axle except for the RS line, which uses expensive tyres).

On the other hand, the Puma looks interesting because of its bigger boot and the mild hybrid option (both for power and driving permits in big cities)

Is the rigid rear axle a noticeable loss? My 2005 Focus is remarkably stable when taking roundabouts at high speed, and I think it's because of the independent suspension.

Is the Puma a worthy ride, or will I miss the Focus?

Thanks.

Puma is actually based on the Mk8 Fiesta and is less roomy inside than you might think although both are roomy really. We have a mk8 Fiesta.  Both Puma and Fiesta have hybrid options now, as will the Focus soon.

Kuga is based on the mk4 Focus.

As to handling, search for posts on here about independent suspension.

The upshot is that yes, the twist beam might not be as advanced or supple but it holds the road perfectly.  My stlx has it and corner quickly.
