How to disable recirculation flap on the climate control

Featured Replies

In my MK3 when it got above 24c outside and the air con was on the car would switch the recirculation on (even though the light does not illuminate) it does this as it is seen as more efficient than pulling in warmer air from outside and cooling it. However this leads to stale air and ends up with the air con smelling of sweaty feet as this is where it pulls the recirculation air from in the passenger footwell. I disabled the flap by disconnecting the motor that operates it. The air con works just fine with using 100% fresh air even at 30c+ outside the air still blowed cold and meant the car was always fresh.

My MK3.5 is the same it is annoying, i can understand it if you switched it to max ac but when you are running at 21c and it is 24c outside there isn't a massive difference so it should use fresh wherever possible. The light does not illuminate but you can tell when it is running as if you turn a/c off the fan noise becomes quieter as it opens the fresh air flap to allow 100% outside air into the car.

If there's one thing I know about in a geeky way its climate control. You'll also probably not be aware if it drops below 4c the compressor does not run even though the a/c light will be lit. Ford dont seem to think you need humidity control below 4c which is when it's perfect for demisting windscreens.
