I have now after reading a lot of problems with adaptive hid lights on ford focus that other people seem to be experiencing when headlamps fail to work and fords dealers just say oh its something inside the lamp and don't sell them so have to buy complete new lamp which runs to not far short of a thousand pounds which in my mind is a lot of money for something that well can go anytime.

So I looked into it myself and when looked inside found that the printed circuit board which had three wires going into one had came out of the clip of three so i had to take the plug off and get the group of wires out and then make repair. This is surely something that they could do rather that just saying sorry cant fix and needs complete new one thousand pounds thank you very much. 

I do think this seems to be happening a lot 

Ford can't repair components, they can only fit new components.  It's the same with any main dealer. 

I'm sure places like BBA Reman could fix these easily enough though.

Simple answer here is if you get the shutter fault do not go to your dealership unless your car is still under a warranty.

If out of warranty then seek out a good auto electrician or someone that works on electronics for a living.

You will save yourself an absolute frickin' bundle.
