Fusion 08 Crankshaft sensor P code, replaced and still not start - help

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Ford Fusion 1.4 DURATorq TDCI 2008.

Been a reliable car for 8 months since I bought it.  Has a "hesitation" when I drive and more so when driving 70Mph.  Never had a fault code or dash light but has remained driving so continued.

Recently drove to Geneva back in one day.  Long drive and apart from the same sporadic hesitation above, the drive was good.

Didn't drive or start the car the following day as was too tired.

Day after, started car and was greeted with a dash message; Engine System Fault.  Car seemed to be idling okay.

Turned car off, started again, idled ok and same message, Engine System Fault.  I revved engine and it seemed all good.  Turned off engine for 3rd time "lucky".

Wouldn't start at all.  No codes on dash.  Just turned over and over and over. No loud noises, just turning over.

Got a guy with Snap-on computer.  Two codes; Crankshaft sensor and another one something about low voltage less than 5 volts detected - no other details.  He presumed this low voltage code was to do with the crankshaft sensor.

Replaced crankshaft sensor just now.  It still won't start and both the same error codes as above; crankshaft sensor and low voltage.

Please can someone advise?

Thank you in advance.

I can’t help thinking this could be a connector problem. I would imagine tracing the wires from sensor to ecu is not easy and probably loads of junctions along the way. If it was mine and I was desperate I might be tempted to rewire sensor to ecu at least temporarily to see if it works. This assumes sensor just connects to ecu and nothing else along the wAy but I don’t know if that is right. I do realise this is not easy. Ecu probably protected with shear bolts and unravelling a huge bunch of wires probably .
