Have a Ford Focus 1.6 Duratec (59 reg) its done ~132000 miles but in general is in good shape.

Recently replaced the clutch (LUK kit), release bearing, flywheel and rear main seal. Fresh gearbox oil at the correct level.

Old release bearing was definitely on its way out, spinning it by hand it sounded very noisy.

With the new parts installed the car seems to drive fine except its making a rattling noise when idling in neutral. The noise goes away when the clutch is pressed. I've read this can point to a failing gearbox (IB5) input bearing...

Is this common / safe to ignore? Does it point to faulty parts such as release bearing (picked clutch kit up from Euro Car Parts).

Hi , I know it’s a old post that I’ve stubbles across doing a search.

I am in a similar position with a ford fiesta with same engine and gearbox , my fiesta has done 190,000kms 

I have like yourselves replaced the same parts oil etc , and have the input shaft rattle at idle.

I know at some point it’s going to require a 2nd gearbox or replacement bearings.

I was wondering many miles  your gearbox lasted before action was taken ?
