ford focus st esp problem

Featured Replies

Can any body help I have a 2006 ford focus st came up with esp fault so mechanic plugged it on to scanner came back with mass flow meter so changed it still same fault so then it was smoke tested which shows a leak in the intercooler so change that and at the same time had the turbo solenoid done at the same time still the fault comes up had the waste gate checked which was working on Saturday had a another smoke and uv dye test no leaks mechanic said could be because it was fitted with a aftermarket mass air sensor the weird thing is the esp light comes on and goes back out also sometimes the boost gauge flicks up and down under boost and it feels like its holding back

couple of mechanic said it could be the veins in the turbo but they wasn't sure if my car had that type of turbo

It doesn't...

Needs to have Ford specific diagnostics on it tbh, you'll just keep throwing parts at it otherwise.  Forscan is ideal for the DIYer.

Aftermarket MAFs are generally crap though, bit of a long shot but do you know anyone else with an ST that you ask to borrow a MAF from to test?

Ok thanks dont know much about cars so forgive my lack of knowledge but if it was the maff sensor would the esp light be on all the time and you are right seems like mechanics are telling to fit different parts and it seems a waste of money

You definitely need a genuine MAF sensor on the ST, it runs like a bag of spanners otherwise!

Thanks luke

BTW if you have an aftermarket induction kit (one with a pod filter) then those are known for killing maf sensors after a couple years or so.

Yes it has got a carbon induction kit on it it was part of a upgrade that bbr done on the vehicle which also included pro alloy intercooler which I just had changed like for like remapped stainless Steel exhaust and upgraded suspension all this work was carried out over 10 years ago by previous owner
