I have tried changing the settings and made sure voice prompts are turned on when navigating, it’s navigating visually but no voice prompts. I’ve also noticed that when answering a call hands free, the receiver can hear me but I cannot hear them. I’ve tried changing sound settings and checked the phone and navigation settings etc.

You need to turn up the volume when the navigation is speaking same for the phone

The volume controls on sync3 are a bit random tbh.
Nav volume can only be changed whilst nav or voice interaction is talking and hazard warnings can only be set whilst the warning is being announced or another way is when playing mp3 files, in the top right corner is an option for the system to tell you what is playing, when the system is talking you can then change the voice notification volume there too.

Hi have sync 3 on my kuga, same problem as this, the fix for the navigation guidance voice is:

-with navigation map screen active and a destination set:

-bottom left hand corner of screen is a speaker icon, if there is a 'x' against it, click it to turn on the volume ... if the icon has an x you will hear nothing regardless of volume setting)

-be aware there are volume settings for audio (radio etc, and a separate volume setting for guidance navigation!!)

-then with a destination set, click the bar at the top that shows the destination next road name, road number (eg A650) etc , this will activate the navigation voice (if you cannot hear anything, at the same time as clicking this bar, turn the volume knob up ...the volume control should say something like 'guidance voice setting' or similar (as opposed to when you have the radio on and turn the volume up or down it will sat 'Audio volume'
