2019 Focus St Line Oil Change Due warning

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just bought a 1.5 ST line 2019 plate that was via Ford Direct through a Dealership. Had the car a week and the oil change warning has appeared this morning. Car has 11,400 approx mileage. Looking for advice around a) whether the oil should have been changed as part of the prep by the dealer before selling and b) If I can continue to drive the car or does she need to go in ASAP? Oil Life shows as 7%. 1st time poster so thanks in advance!

I would check with dealer, could be they did not reset the oil monitoring system

The dealer should have checked the oil life % and changed the oil prior to you having it. Is it the 1.5 diesel or petrol. If petrol thats a bit early for oil life to be so low. But diesel that's about right as the service intervals are alot lower . So basically it should have had service and oil changed. Don't let them just reset the oil life without seeing proof of the service has been done.( Paperwork.)

Does your service book have a stamp in for recent service?

It's petrol. No service yest as 1st one is due around 18500 miles/ 2 years apparently. I'll take it down tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for the advice though as didnt want to kick up a stink without knowing if it should really have been checked by them.

Is the oil change warning on the app? Or dash ?

My 1.5 petrol oil life is on target for a change at 10k.  Before this there would be no reason for the dealer to actually change it, even at the 1 year convenience check.  That said they should have picked it up on the car check.  At 7% left you should have plenty of time to get it sorted.

I seem to remember reading somewhere about Ford mandating that you should get it done within 1700 miles of the warning but I could well be wrong.

From various posts on here noone has ever got near getting to 18k before oil life runs out, especially those of us who do shorter journeys.

For example mine is on 9% at 11500 miles after 22months

Mine is 54% after 4642 miles. Looks like 7% at 11,400 will be where mine would be too.

That looks entirely correct to me. It's not just mileage based, but time based and "something clever" as well.

This is how it works for my Focus, you'll have to substitute your own service intervals for the miles and months - The remaining oil life is the lowest proportion left of 3 competing events from the time it was last reset :

1. A countdown over 12 months

2. A countdown over 12500 miles

3. A "clever" algorithm calculating oil quality based on operational events.

Bear in mind it is from the time it was last reset, which might have been in the factory for a brand new car if the dealer forgot to do it, but yours seems correct to me.

  • 1 year later...

What type of  oil do I put in a focus st line x edition 155 70 plate.
