Ford Fiesta 2017 Ecoboost 125 BHP (Service / Oil Change)

Featured Replies

Hi

I purchased a Ford Fiesta New 2017 Shape Ecoboost 125 BHP Titanium vehicle in July 2019 from Lookers.co.uk.

The car had been just serviced when I bought the vehicle and was stamped for a service in August 2021

The oil life within the vehicle is 37%

The car manual says a service is due every 2 years

Please can some guide me?

Depends what millage you do but otherwise service is due every 2 years for these cars. Guessing by the oil life being at 37% you do a fair bit of mileage as I'd have though it would have possibly had a service before being sold last July.

Loads of threads on here about service intervals, Ford seem to have confused everybody on this.

My understanding is that service is required every 2 years or 18,000 miles, with an intermediate "convenience check". As the name suggests, it is basically  a check with fluid top up (not an oil change) but they also extend your breakdown cover for a further 12 months, which is quite valuable to some people. If going for the check, verify that your chosen Ford dealer participates in the breakdown extension scheme as a small number don't, for some reason.

If you do lots of short journeys etc your oil life may not make it to 18,000 or 2 years so you will get a warning an oil change is due.

If your vehicle was given a full service in July 2019, then service would not be due until August 2021 as the dealership suggests, or when you have done 18,000 miles since the last service if that occurs sooner.

Your car would,  though, now be due for the recommended intermediate "convenience check" which is optional but otherwise you will have to sort your own breakdown cover.

Many of us don't trust the extended service interval and have an oil and filter change at the "convenience check" anyway, and once the warranty has expired many people prefer to go to their trusted independent garage for annual service/MOT rather than their Ford dealer and make their own arrangements for breakdown cover.

I had convenience check @ £125 told without my ford direct warrantee would be void and breakdown cover expire.

ford direct warrantee

I've had a couple of Ford Direct cars and (just to add to the confusion) the warranty does differ from the new car warranty by for example, giving 2 years breakdown cover instead of 1.

Iirc the Ford Direct warranty states that you are responsible at your expense for regular checks as specified in the Service Portfolio. In my Service Portfolio the only checks mentioned are body and paint, otherwise it only mentions the Service intervals at 2 years/18,000, and the service record has no provision to record details of the Convenience check.

And we think the Coronavirus rules are complicated.....!😃

£125 for someone to check the fluid levels and tyres (something that should be done once a month anyway) then film a 30 second video of the underside of your car sounds like completely robbery to me 🤷‍♂️

I suppose it's not bad for the breakdown cover, but the whole idea of getting a new car is that it's more reliable and won't break down in the first place...

That's the cost of keeping warranty on a nearly new car - 2 choices buy new loose money on depreciation (unless you can afford a mclaren  F1) - Buy cheap and spend spend spend.

If anything goes wrong that's not classed as general wear and tear it's free for 3 years and on my car unlimited mileage and free relay. However RAC or AA etc bet is cheaper.

Ford dealer here in Egypt says that ford specifies for my country the service interval to be every 10k km ( 7500 miles ) or one year whatever occurs first, any way after 7500 miles the oil life drops to about 20%,  so assume a service every 7500 miles is acceptable , I don’t know if the PCM software is calibrated specifically for Egypt or this is the case with you also regarding the oil life monitor.

Engine oil specified by ford here also is motorcraft 5w20 and thats what the dealer uses

The last time I did servicing at those low intervals were in the 1980's . Suzuki cars and jeeps were 6000ml  intervals

You don't need to go to Ford for servicing to keep the warranty. You can service it yourself provided you keep receipts etc. It's been in law for sometime that the dealer can only give you a schedule to adhere to, and not force you to have it serviced by their franchises in order to maintain the warranty.

Get better resale value with main dealer service history and all records are readily available. In my opinion If i'm going to spend 20k on a car i would prefer the dealer to service it least i know i will be getting original parts. Horses for courses.

That's been the case since late 1990,s from memory.

" Forthe warranty to remain effective the vehicle must be serviced in accordance with the service interval schedule specified in the vehicles Service Portfolio. It is not necessary for a vehicle to be serviced by a Ford authorized dealer.

Where a vehicle is not serviced by a Ford authorized dealer, all parts used must be genuine Ford parts and fluids or parts and fluids that match the genuine Ford branded parts and correct specification fluids."
