Front end knock

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking for some advice re: Mk7 Fiesta, 1.4 petrol. Girlfriends car, bought cheap with some bits needing done. From day of purchase theres been a clunk/thud/knock from the front. Start at the bottom and worked my way up. Both wishbones were shot, changed both sides. No difference. Both track rod ends and drop links changed. Still the same. Took in for wheel alignment and guy said inner track rod on passenger side was fubar, changed both sides, still got the noise. So, whats the thoughts on engine mounts over the top suspension mounts? All shocks/springs are in good nick. Are engine mounts a known failure on these? Its at 60k the now. Any thoughts appreciated,

Cheers,

Iain

I broke a front spring on my current MK 6 Fiesta, so got new shocks and springs done at the road side by a mobile guy.  All was fine for a few miles, but then one side started knocking.  Turned out that it needed to be nipped up even harder on the top nut.  The guy came back to do it and he had to lay into it with an impact driver really hard to stop it making the noise.  So I guess even if the shocks/springs all looks in good nick (not scores or leaks), could it be the top mount bearing/kit or maybe it just needs torquing up?

Have you checked the discs ? Pad thickness ? Loose pads ?

Originally crap wheel nut covers which can rattle badly on uneven ground ?

Check all over the car for anything loose or broken, we had a bad rattle and it was the alloy exhaust shield.

Get the car up off the floor and look all over it.

Hi guys, had up on ramp, full suspension has been looked over and there's nothing untoward with anything. Should have mentioned its had new discs/pads less than 6 months ago, noise has been there since she bought it a year ago. Exhaust was also replaced for last MOT, heat shield at front was re attached and I have recently went over all the underbody fixings sorting/replacing them. I'm leaning towards the top mounts but to have had an VX omega that had a duff lower engine mount before and gave same kind of noise, just seeing if there a common problem or not
