Updating the SYNC 3 in 2017 Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Was looking to see how/if it would be possible to update the SYNC system in my '67 Fiesta to the latest version? A lot of the guides and videos online show two options - connect via WiFi or use a USB (the former allows for the update to happen in the background apparently so you can use the system whilst it updates. Whilst I'm sure that the update process probably depends from model to model, I connected my car to my WiFi network. I believe for the USB option you go online and provide the VIN number and it checks whether it has been update or not etc

Do I need to wait for perhaps an update to arrive after it has scanned? I'm currently using version 3.0 and I'm sure there is a newer version out there that has a more refined UI!  Is there anything else that I should do at this point having connected to my home WiFi or should the system start updating automatically whilst I'm on the road? I also understand that if the download doesn't complete, then it automatically resumes the next time I start the car?

Has anyone updated their 2017 Fiesta to the newer SYNC version and how did you achieve it, and its it worth doing?

Thanks!

It is widely reported that Wifi updates are unlikely to work. Stick with usb and watch a couple of youtube videos so you know what to expect.

I used the Cyanlabs method to update to 3.4 on my 2018 Vignale, and it was well worth it. F9 maps can also be downloaded too. There’s one or two guides on here (on the Focus forum) and there’s You Tube videos as well. The only thing to bear in mind is you do it at your own risk. In fact there’s a new update come online in the past few days, however it does take about a couple of hours, so make sure you’ve got a bit of time to spare should you decide to take this route.
