Wont Start if Less Than Half Tank

Ford Galaxy 2013 MK3 2.0 TDCi wont start after sitting overnight if tank is less than half full, if I leave with full tank diesel starts every-time even if left sitting for 2 days.

Possibly too much air in tank when half full, so fuel pump needs to work harder? fuel pump on the way out? can a faulty fuel cap cause it by not sealing system properly? does the fuel tank of these car have a breather/purge, which could be blocked?
