Used Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost or Focus 1.6?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some advice on my dilemma. I had to say goodbye to my 2012 Fiesta zetec (1.25) after a boy racer hit it. I got my money from the insurance and am in a lookout for a new car. Due to the current jobs situation and all I don't want to spend the whole amount and am hoping to find something for 4k so been mainly looking at used Fiestas and Focus (2011-2013). I initially really wanted to get a Focus as that was my original plan (drive the old car for another couple of years and then upgrade to a focus), but now am a bit stumped: there's a couple of 2011-2012 Focus 1.6 zetec that I've seen priced the same as a couple of 2013 Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost titanium.

What I'd be using the car for: mainly commute in town, driving to placement a couple of times a week (70miles round trip on motorway) and some trips out into the highlands so 2-4 hours on the road. I had my fiesta for 4 years and did 35k miles, with one cross europe drive and the last two years once weekly 190miles roundtrip and can't really complain.

I initially wanted a Focus for the slightly bigger size of the boot (i have two dogs) and it being generally more comfortable for trips. But Fiesta having a few extras for the same price is tempting.

Just hoping to get some thoughts from more experienced owners. Which car would be the better choice? Especially considering it will be a well used car for that price so while I will be selling it in a couple of years, I don't want something that might require many repairs in that time...
