Ecoboost issue

Featured Replies

Hi all like some info please just purchased a 1.0 ecoboost 2012 2 months ago had a issue with expansion tank loosing water now I found out its the degas hose is there a recall on this its got that bad the car not worth taking a risk to drive

Focus presumably?  There was a recall but on a 2012 it should have already been done.  The replacement degas hose from the recall also breaks eventually, there is no recall for the recall unfortunately.

You can either buy another identical degas hose (around £30 from a dealer) or upgrade to the facelift model hoses which are a different design and more reliable.

Whether there was a recall related to the degas hose or not fully depends of the Ford model and the production date of the vehicle.

For the Fiesta MK7.5 1.0 ECOboost there was never a recall related to the degas hose.

For the Focus MK3 there was a recall at the end of 2014. The vehicles affected by this recall were basically produced late 2012, 2013 and early 2014. Earlier 2012 and later 2014 models were not affected. The recall consisted of the installation of the revised type of degas hose. This type of hose was already installed during production of vehicles from early 2014 onwards.

History showed that now these vehicles become older even the revised type of degas hose often fail. As a result of the relative high coolant temperature combined with vibrations the plastic materials of the degas hose and coolant reservoir become brittle and/or develop (micro)cracks. Therefore I highly recommend to replace the degas hose, coolant reservoir and coolant reservoir cap periodically (for example every 3 Years). Replacing these parts is pretty inexpensive and can prevent a lot of trouble/costs.
