Weird Limp mode issue

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

Im really hoping some Ford guru can help me lol . my vehicle 2014 Ford Focus 1.6 tdci zetec s .I have had a persistent issue for around 10 months but I am only now getting around to resolve it. When the vehicle is cold it is in limp mode and displays a engine malfunction indicator, when it has then reached temperature I turn it on and off and the fault has cleared and it drives normally, it will then go back into limp mode after around 30 minutes of driving once turned off and on again it’s clear and the cycle continues. I have plugged it in to a diagnostic reader and it is showing the fault code P2598 ( turbocharger boost control position sensor A performance low) i have had a look around and seen that there are various things that It could be such as turbo boost solenoid, turbo pressure sensor Ect but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue and can shed some light on it before I go forking out the cash for parts! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Owain

It can be the Turbo, rotary electrical actuator itself or the variable vane mechanism sticking on the turbo.
You’ll have to disconnect the link rod between the actuator and turbo mech and see if it’s free or sticks.

It can be sticking also only when hot or due to carbon build up on the turbo mech. You can either strip it down to clean it or you get a spray to clean it.

it could also be a wiring issue between the pcm and actuator also but it’s more likely to be sticking.

Hello! I have a '14 Transit Connect with an 1.6 TDCI 116HP engine, i have totally same issue after 1 year. I replaced turbo actuator, vacuum valve, but i get error and limp mode at cold, i re-start engine on the fly, and problem goes until next cold start. Have you any update about that issue?

Hi

Did you resolve the fault code p2598??  as i have the same problem ive changed actuator and valve. Service engine now warning on dash. Only does it when engine is cold aswell.
Be great full if you could share any info to fixing it?
thanks stuart

Don't think you'll get a response as the OP hasn't been on here since February 2022.

I suggest you start a new thread.

Do you have forscan? If not get it. Best diagnostic for Ford's.
