should i replace my boot struts

Featured Replies

I recently noticed that if my boot isn't opened more than halfway the boot struts do nothing, at halfway open the struts hold to boot lid at halfway open and then past that they open the boot lid slowly and stop just under a cm short

Yep, replace them, very simple to do

Plenty on eBay

have now ordered some, the emerald struts boot struts

Yes I would recommend you replace ASAP, I always remember my Astra mk1 many years ago, I had 2 of them brand new and each one did the same, what happens is one day you will open the hatch, but will be unaware when you have the hatch open that one of them will have seized and just as you think....oh it must be fixed because at last it held the hatch open......the party is soon over when you come to shut the hatch and it rips off the strut bracket because it was actually seized in the open position, so make sure you replace both

luckily it hasn't got to that stage, it will still help get the hatch up its just not as strong as it used to be and had started to weep oil a tiny bit, but needless to say i have now ordered a new pair
