Mk7 A/c Operation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i noticed in my 1,25 mk7 that when i turn on the a/c (not climate control) and while the noisy radiator fan is on all the time (this is normal) ,i can hear a clicking sound from engine bay every about 20 seconds.

Basically its the a/c compressor engaging on and off.I have heard this ''problem'' in mk6 but i would wxpect from ford to have solved it or at least to make it less noticeable.

When you switch it on for the first time it takes some time to start clicking i think its because the inner radiator hasn't reached the proper temp. After that (around 2 min) it does it all the time.

Is it normal?

Have you ever heard it?

Yes - mine does this too. Think that it's a fuel saving feature where the a/c compressor kicks in & out rather than running all the time as on my last (Vauxhall) car.... It is a noisy click though!
