No hot air

Featured Replies

Hi I've a 2009 fiesta 1.6 tdci and not getting any hot air? Just blowing cold. Any ideas. Thanks

Check the coolant level hasn't gone low. You may have an air lock in the heater matrix.

Either that or the cable has come off that controls the flap.

Coolant at max level. I'll have a look for the cable being loose. Thanks

Same age cars all same problem - header tank, cap & thermostat require replacing.

Hi what kind of money you talking?

Probably around £120 in bits plus fitting unless you are capable.

Will do thanks.

Another thing to check is water pump - that tends to be noisy if bearings gone.

But then the engine would overheat?

If the thermostat is bad then your engine would take ages to warm up (or overheat once warmed up).

If the engine is being cooled correctly then i very much doubt this is a problem with anything on the tank, thermostat or waterpump.

Engine would not overheat with noisy bearings only if seized.

Cars 11 years old would imagine that's past the sell by date of tank and thermostat. mileage would have some impact too.

What I'm trying to get at is there's no point throwing money at it doing a complete overhaul of the cooling system when you don't even know what's at fault.

no point putting a bandage on if you want reliability. One tow can cost more than the repair.

Might aswell change the battery, alternator, fuel pump, wheel bearings and every other moving part then as you just don't know when they might fail 🤷‍♂️.

At the end of the day the OP wants to get some hot air blowing. He's going to be very disappointed spending the £120 you said on a new tank, cap and thermostat to find he still has the same issue.

I believe in if it aint broken dont fix it however obviously there is a problem and with older cars tends to be more than one part that fails. Do the job properly as you would be annoyed after repairing one problem a knock on effect has occurred with even worst consequences. Do the job once properly.

There's doing the job properly, then there's 'fixing' an unrelated problem. You wouldn't change all the slightly rusty radiators in your house because the shower is cold...

you got rusty radiators? mine are dusty,😉 shower comes from my hot water tank. If it came from the radiators i would be dirty havent flushed them for years. If i wasnt getting hot water out my shower first i would check the boiler then my solenoid valve. If it still didn't work id call a plumber😁 He would then probably service my boiler and fit a new valve.

Errm I never said I had rusty radiators? But at least you proved my point i guess lol.

True but then it will be good for another 10 years.

Guys have discovered its a faulty actuator which switches a flap between hot and cold air. Situated under drivers side dash low down. You can just see it if you remove a side panel. I pushed the arm and it switched to hot air and I've wedged it in place until a replacement actuator arrives. Thanks for all your input.
