Fuse Locations

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm looking to hardwire in my current dashcam as I'm not a huge fan of the wire going to my 12v at the moment.

I'm just wondering what fuse to use because the guides I've read talk about constant power and ignition power and its just going straight over my head to be honest. I know they vary per model and spec. i have a 2019 mk8 fiesta active with no extra option on top if that helps.

Thankyou for your time.

Constant power is anything that you can use with the engine off...so radio, interior lights, etc.

Ignition power (switched live) is anything that you can only use with the ignition on...so wipers, heated seats, etc.

Do you want the dashcam to be permanently powered (useful for parking mode but can drain the battery) or switched so it just comes on and off with the ignition?

Assuming the Active is the same as standard Fiesta, Ithink it'll be the heated steering wheel fuse that's best for a switched live.

thankyou for clearing that up and im more wanting it on when im actually using the car so im wanting ignition power more. i dont have a heated steering wheel but if i find the wiper fuse or something similar that will work yes?

Just done my daughters 68 plate Fiesta and I used the fuse number 3 in the fusebox in the passenger foot well - this is an ignition live so will only power up when you put the key in the ignition also you will need a micro fuse holder to piggy back it.

Thought piggy back fuses were dodgy can cause overloads if not installed properly solder and heat shrink sleeving better!

My fuse link for doing the piggy back was supplied by  Nextbase free of charge as I was installing one of their dashcams.

Ford Cam fitted in my car has individual 2A fuse on its own circuit sync 3 compatible.
