2012 boot water ingress and rear parking sensor problems

Featured Replies

I have recently bought my son a 2012 1.6 Econetic turbo diesel car and there are a couple of issues that I have only just spotted.

Firstly, there is water getting into the boot.  I have sealed the holes underneath the rear bumper and checked the seals around the tail lights, where else is there for the water to enter the boot ?

Secondly, the parking sensor button does not light up  and the sensors don't work.  This car has rear parking sensors only, which fuse needs checking and is this a common problem ? From the manual, its shows fuse location for when the car has front parking sensors only !?!

Any information appreciated, especially as the weather is turning and he doesnt want to start scrapping the inside of the car as well.

Water can leak into boot from sealing rubber between hatch back door lip and boot and possibly rear screen wash jet/pipe.

Did parking sensors work before could be replacement bumper. Are they wired in.

I've managed to watch a few videos on youtube, so have found a few more areas to check and fill if needed. I will check the door lip and rear screen wash pipe too as you suggested.

Parking sensors never worked, I checked and they are plugged in as I took off the rear bumper at the weekend.  Just odd that even the light isnt coming on at all, which suggests no power.  I think it flashes or beeps if the sensors have failed.

I can always run through each fuse, but thought it might be a common known problem.

The parking sensor module is in the boot, it's probably got ruined by damp.  I take it the park pilot display doesn't appear on the dash screen either?  Are the reverse lights working?

When you say the holes under the bumper, do you mean the bumper vents?  That's usually where these leak from, though the roof seems to be getting more common on here lately.

I had  a problem with water in the boot in an earlier Fiesta and it proved to be the rear windscreen washer leaking.

Cheers all, will check everything out next weekend and see if I can get the leak and parking sensors fixed. IF the module is in the boot, then it probably has been ruined by the damp.
