Mk7.5 (63) Headlight Fixture

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Hopefully you can help me out with some better news!

I've had a call from the garage doing my MOT, which is unfortunately overdue saying my car has failed on the front light fixture.

I have noticed the passenger side daytime running LED light will only sometimes work but haven't noticed any issues with the main lighting, however I have been quoted £400 to repair the entire light fitting as it is a failure on the MOT.

Do you have any suggestions on where I could find a cheaper fitting? Or if this is perhaps a common issue with an easy fix? I had assumed the LED strip was connected with a faulty fuse but that it wasn't a big deal so hadn't got round to testing that myself.

Cheers.

The LED's are built into the unit so can't be easily replaced. If a car is fitted with DRL's, they have to work in order to pass an MOT.

You can get a second hand unit from either a breakers yard or eBay for around £100. They're very easy to remove with just a couple screws and a clip holding them in.

I've heard of a few LED DRL's failing whilst being on this forum but I wouldn't say it's on the "common issues" list. The LED's won't be individually fused, so if the fuse has gone neither would work (and it wouldn't be intermittent).

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I had looked around online after posting and found that DRL's were necessary to pass the MOT, I still find it a little strange but it's not my place I suppose!

Your suggestion was a good shout, I found exactly what I was looking for at £100 (+ delivery) on eBay! I'll phone around at the scrappies tomorrow if I can find one more locally. I've actually replaced bulbs myself which involved removing the whole fitting, it was a bit of a pain but worth it to save ~£300 haha.

It's a shame today was one of the days where it doesn't work!
