Brake master cylinder

Featured Replies

Evening,

The fun continues with the fiesta . The brakes are a little spongy sometimes then other times they are ok. When they go spongy there is a lot of pedal travel then sharp braking. Discs and pads on the front look in good shape . Took the rear drums off this morning and everything looks pretty new . The cylinders are free  , I adjusted the rear shoes then replaced the fluid and bled the brakes. Brakes felt ok initially  then after 5 minutes of driving the spongy pedal came back intermittently.  I’m confident there is no air in the system , thinking the master cylinder is U/S.

Could be the abs pump , a known issue around your age of car.

Thanks for the reply . Checked the pump with the diag and all good . If you jump on the brakes it kicks in and works well .

Replaced the Master Cylinder this morning  and the brakes are now spot on.  For info. If you use the eezibleed you will need to get someone to operate the brake pedal at the same time to purge the air out of the MC. Or the other option is to bench bleed the MC first. Thanks for the info. Guys
