LED fitting challenges

Featured Replies

Hi

Trying to fit some new dipped & main beam LEDs in my son’s 2010 Fiesta mk7 (pre facelift)

Seems that the fittings for both these bulbs have some interesting problems.

The dipped beams have an extra piece of detachable housing which has the wiring attached, and that the H7 bulb fitting locks into then that housing has two metal tabs which rotate and lock into the reflector housing. The LEDs we got from ABD are passively cooled but I don’t think have massive heatsinks, look pretty similar to most others, but they are too big to fit in this housing. Can you get some kind of adapter that replaces this external housing piece and is wide enough to accommodate bulbs like this?

Then the main beams just don’t have enough space behind the hole to be able to get the length of the bulb in there and lined up to insert into the housing. Looks like the metal spring clip would be ok behind the H1 collar thing on these but there’s just no way to actually get the bulb in and turned to fit into the hole, I don’t reckon. And again the diameter of the heatsink looks like it might clash with the plastic housing of the beam height adjustment mechanism. Anyone know if it’s possible, and are there maximum size bulbs that can make it? Should I just work on my krypton factor skills?

These are the bulbs we got
