Scratch repair

Featured Replies

Someone has run into my wife's car in a car park leaving some scratches.   I've read about a firm that comes to your house a house minor repairs but I can't find them.   Can anyone here give me a clue please?

chips away 🙂

I would have a good look around locally too.

I have two very small mark's on my drivers door only really noticable when it's been washed and had some quotes from and including chips away ( not knocking them or anyone) where you provide location and pics of the damage/ make and model etc and they came back with £260 stating the whole door would have to be redone due to the paint colour ( Magnetic) the other companies I emailed with the same criteria didnt get back to me.

Check the local independent body shops too. There’s one local to me that actually does the repairs for the local Ford dealer, and they do some great prices when you go direct. Some of the smart repair guys are now dearer than a body shop.

How bad is it - can you polish it out?

No, there's no chance it'll polish out.

Thanks Del.   That's who I was trying to think of.

no worries mate 👍

If you ever get shopping trolley dents with no break in paint, you can also seek out 'Painless Dent Removal'. My local bodyshop recommended a local independent guy who did a house visit with me recently removing 5 of the little buggers from my passenger door at a cost of £70, door now looks mint!

Sorry to hear of that Bob  that sort of thing really angers me....beyond belief!

When it happened to me I got chips away for twice it happened, one was a key scratch about 12" long about 4 years ago, I think it cost about £130, but wow what a fantastic job he did, you really couldn't tell and it never caused problems later, brilliant job.

They come to your driveway and erect a type of tent over your car then the magic starts.

Thanks Stephen, I'll have a look at that too.

Isn't 'chipsaway' just a company name and this company just contracts work out to local paint/body repairers and you have to pay that bit more ? So whoever does the work could be mint at their job, but then it could be someone who's not been at it long, so the job isn't mint.

I'd shop around because even the most expensive repair can't guarantee you a mint finish & match.

See if you can go look at any work being done in the workshops.

Yes, it's just a 'franchise', meaning that if you pony up enough dosh, you can trade under that name but you also get proper training to do the job, otherwise their 'name' becomes worthless. Just in the same way your local SubWay, and McDonalds is a franchise. You pay them money to run the business, you get all the training and marketing support, and after paying them their fee, you get to keep the profit. 'Shopping around' is a universal truth for anything!
