Engine cuts out when idle and rev's problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

For the past couple of weeks, I have been experiencing some intermittent issues. I presume the problems are related.

Firstly, the car will start first time every time but occasionally when I arrive at a junction or slow down for traffic lights and lower the gears, the engine will cut out. It doesn't always happen and it will start again first time.

Secondly, when I accelerate the revs go up but the car won't get power straight away. Again, I don't notice this all the time but it happens more often that the engine cutting out.

Any advice or theories please?

Car Spec:

2007 Ford Fiesta Zetec Climate. 1.4L Manual transmission

Thanks!

J.

I am not an expert, but it looks like the clutch is gone, it should be weared or something

Your clutch is slipping. This could be because it doesn' t disengage properly and has become glazed. That would explain both issues. If it keeps going when you arrive at a stop in neutral, this would support that theory.
