Has anyone upgraded from a mk 8 st line/ st line x to an ST?

Featured Replies

Has anyone? if so how did you find the difference?

I currently have an ST line X 140 which I love, but I have noticed that mk 8 st-2's are now in my price range, so tempted to maybe upgrade.

Think I want to get that one petrol hot hatch before we have to go electric. The only problem is I would have to get my Part-ex to cover my remaining finance (which maybe hard).

Would love to know what MK 8  ST owners think, especially In regards to the seats because I know the seats are a controversial topic.

Looked at one twice, test drive one twice, both St3's (wouldn't want a lesser trim level) and to us the extra running cost purely isn't worth it to us.

Insurance increase again for us was negligible but fuel cost and minimal but unjustified tax costs as well as the difference in price just didn't make it worthwhile for us.

Other than a few more horsepower than the new StLx Mhev and the odd subtle difference for us the Fiesta St is an increased cost for very little difference.

Just our point of view of course and others will be different.

No, but I've driven an ST line 140, and owned Mk6, 7 & 8 ST.

The ST's handle totally different, and the power is delivered in a totally different way. Definitely go for one if you can afford it, or buy a Mk7 cash instead, they are possibly more fun than the Mk8, but just less comforts.

If still unsure, go for a test drive.

Been going through this dilemma myself in recent years. Had several quite lengthy drives in the Mk 7.5 ST when it came out, but couldn't get on with the seat and suspension and at the time ended up with a SEAT Leon FR which had fairly similar performance but was a lot more comfortable. Don't really need that size car these days, though, so now back in a Fiesta as you know.

Had high hopes of the Mk 8 ST which is certainly better comfort-wise but still don't get on with the seat. Apparently they've put the same seat in the Puma ST so that's out also.

It's a shame Ford (and others) can't tune things to suit North Yorkshire B roads rather than clipping fractions of a second off a lap of the Nurburgring.

It's really more torque I'm after, rather than top-end power, so I'm wondering if the latest 155 mhev might fit the bill while retaining reasonable comfort.

Certainly looking forward to seeing what Martin thinks of his, in comparison to his current 140.

Speaking of which the Mrs car will be ready to collect next Saturday 19th, arrived in Liverpool Tuesday, delivered to Dealer today but cannot get in during the week.

Will put up a post after we pick it up.👍🏻

I too was looking at finally getting an ST, probably as the last petrol car before it all changes. Never did happen though and today I picked up a 155mhev, replacing a 140 st line X.

Only done 10 miles in it in rush hour so too early to do any comparisons.

Differences I've noted in the short drive is the steering seems much (too) lighter. Seen some sport/normal/eco button I haven't used yet and some new hybrid icons flashing up on the dash. Hill start assist appears to be on all the time, no option to turn off. New blue screen on the sync. And the stop start kicks in a lot more on its own even in gear and moving slowly rather than at a standstill in neutral.

Got the Ford connect modem thing on this, and it appears to act a bit like a tracker within the app which could be useful. Will be turning off keyless entry tomorrow though for a bit of peace of mind.

I assume the different drive modes affect the steering weight? Might now need "sport" to get the same weight you had on the 140.

I'm still finding out stuff after nearly 3 years, looks like it might take even longer on this newest version!😀

Saw the other day Ford have added like a sleep feature to the new keys, after 45 seconds it goes into a mode where it does not give off any signal. Whether this actually makes it unable to be scanned by someone attempting to rob the car though i wouldn't trust 100%

Was quite an interesting watch have a look here:

Play from 8:27 for dead key explanation.
