Mild Hybrids don't feel any different

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've seen a few people ask if the mild hybrid feels any different.  I've got a Fiesta STLine 125 MHEV as a hire car and it doesn't feel any different to a normal engine.  It's a bit nipper than my wife's none-hybrid 100ps but it would be.  The hybrid just accelerates like a normal turboed engine and all you see are little symbols on the dash to show if you are either pulling from or adding power to the battery.

I have known drivers though who when coasting down to traffic lights put the car in neutral from a fairly high speed.  This would flatten the hybrid battery as it only shows charging when you are deccelarating in gear.

Yes, I had a test drive in a Puma 125ps MHEV just before Covid struck. Felt perfectly normal to me, other than the dash displays.  I found them quite entertaining but suspect they could annoy me longer term - presumably you can choose whether to display them or not? Didn't get time to play about on a test drive.

Good point about coasting - as I understand it the system needs to recover the energy normally lost when the engine is on overrun.

I'll see if the display can be changed.

I wonder if after a no deal we can get rid of those stupid EU mandated shift lights?  😄😄
